With limited square footage and a dated layout, it needed a complete overhaul to feel fresh, functional, and full of charm.
The Vision: Light, Coastal, and Family-Friendly
Our clients (in this case, us!) wanted a warm and welcoming kitchen that reflected the laid-back vibe of lake life while being durable enough for frequent vacation rental guests. The goal: timeless, not trendy. Fresh and functional. Simple, but far from boring.

The Challenges: Small Footprint, Awkward Layout
The original kitchen had bulky cabinetry that made the space feel even smaller. An awkward peninsula cut off the room, limiting flow and counter space. With such a tight footprint, every inch had to be carefully considered.
The Hearthwood Approach: Quality Over Clutter
We began by removing the peninsula and opening up the layout to allow better movement through the space. Sean customized the cabinetry install to maximize every inch of usable storage while keeping things visually light.
Design elements we incorporated:
- Matte white shaker-style cabinetry with soft-close hardware for a sleek, low-maintenance finish
- Marble-look laminate countertops for brightness and durability
- White shiplap walls for a coastal nod without overwhelming the space
- A custom built range hood and soft wood accents to add texture and personality
Even small details—like choosing the right warm-white paint and simple black hardware—were intentional. We wanted the space to feel serene, but never sterile.
The Result: Airy, Timeless, and Ready for Lake Life
The new kitchen now feels twice as spacious, with room to prep, gather, and enjoy lakehouse mornings with a coffee in hand. The updated design flows seamlessly into the adjoining living area and invites guests to settle in and stay awhile.
